Thoughts

Just when I thought the campaign was winding down, another twist raises it’s head. An item came up in the news that John McCain’s presidential election campaign solicited a financial contribution from the most unlikely source — Russia’s United Nations envoy — but a McCain spokesman on Monday quickly said it was a mistake.

In the letter, McCain urged Russia’s U.N. Ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, to contribute anywhere from $35.00 to $5,000.00 to help ensure McCain’s victory over Democratic rival Senator Barack Obama, currently ahead in voter preference polls.

Moscow’s mission to the United Nations issued a very strong terse statement on McCain’s letter, saying that the Russian government and its officials “do not finance political activity in foreign countries.”

Although McCain’s campaign’s response to this new revelation was “It was an error in the mailing list”, the letter was addressed, directly, to Ambassador Churkin and had McCain’s signature near the bottom of the letter.

Now, my questions are: why would McCain solicit from a foreign diplomat when he knew that it was illegal? Was this letter “code” for more than money help in dealing with Senator Obama? Why is McCain and his people playing “cozy” with the Russian government?

Now, the final question is this: who is really in bed with the enemy?
