Opinion

Today, I will be voicing my opinion on Senator John McCain and his bid for the position of President of the United States of America.

All comments made within this post are my own thoughts and opinions as a private citizen. I have not been compensated in any form and  I do not represent, directly or indirectly, any political or special interest group(s).

John McCain

There are some serious issues that I have with John McCain.

The first issue is his military record. I feel that I, more than some, can criticize him on his military record as I served, with honor, for over 20 years in the United States military during the Vietnam era. It is well known among Vietnam veterans that John McCain lived a privileged military life due to the fact that, both, his grandfather and father were full Admirals (4 star rank). McCain would not have gotten into the Naval Academy if it weren’t for his military family background as he had low academic ratings from his private high school. During his time at the Naval Academy, he was deficient in academics and broke almost every rule in school including the Honor Code. To this day, his ex-classmates tell stories of his wild and undisciplined conduct during his stay at the academy. It caused him to graduate 5 places from the last place in his class (894 of 899). Lowest among the lowest. Again, he was accepted to Naval Flight training due to family influence. During that training, he crashed two airplanes and was an”every night party guy” getting drunk and having sexual relations with prostitutes. After training, he continued to be known as a party guy and was known as having a different woman in every port even though he was married. It just came to light, this week, of his affair with a woman in South America. Other married officers would have been in trouble with such conduct but, again, his family connection protected him.

When he was shot down and captured, he was among over 600 men that were prisoners of war in Vietnam. The real truth of the matter is, he was only tortured for two years not the five that he says and there were many men held prisoner there that  were treated far worse than McCain. Many of those men are on record voicing their opinions and experiences against McCain. When he was, finally, broken down and gave confessions to the North Vietnamese, they nicknamed him the “songbird” because he gave them so much information. That issue about early release from captivity is really a non-issue because if he had left early he would have disgraced his family and he knew that he could not face his father who was the top officer in charge of forces in the region. Staying in the prison was a lot easier than facing his father.

I do not denounce or degrade McCain’s service or his suffering. I denounce that he isn’t any more special than the thousands of service men and women that suffer as POWs during the wars that America has fought. In the end, service in the United States Armed Forces does not qualify a person to be President of the United States of America.

Years later, when he found out that he would never make full Admiral in the US Navy, he retired. During his last years in the military, he had worked as a military liaison in Washington, DC. This is where he got the idea to go into politics. During the rest of his military career and into civilian life, he continued to be untrue to his marriage and his family (this by is own admission). He, finally, got his long suffering wife to agree to a divorce and he married his current wife Cindy, a very rich woman with a less than perfect past. She made McCain accept  a pre-nuptial agreement that stated her money and property would always remain hers alone. Do you think that she trusted him? Of course not, as she was the last “other woman” before he married her.

In his years as Senator, McCain has been well known more as a bad tempered person than a maverick. He has always liked to get his way and when he doesn’t he lets people know. He is well known to hold grudges against people for very long periods of time. It is easy to see that he never out grew his status as a “military brat.” That is saying something when you are talking about a man that is 72 years old.

There are many more things that I do not like about McCain but the final point I will make is important. Have you noticed that McCain will not look a person in the eye. When he debated Obama, he refused to make eye contact with Obama and only made little sneers when Obama made statements. I do not trust anyone who is not willing to look me in the eye.

In the end, I am looking for someone that will have an understanding of the current geo-political, energy, and economic situation in the world today. John McCain does not understand or have the intellect or moral capacity to provide the leadership necessary to resolve these important issues. I don’t want a “McCain” with his finger on the nuclear bomb. We can’t afford a “shoot now and think later” leader…not in this day and age.

In conclusion, Senator John McCain is not presidential material. He lost to President Bush before and, I hope,  he will lose to Barak Obama this time.

I really, really wanted to believe in this guy. I actually voted for him in 2000. I am sorry I did, even though I had absolutely no use for the moron in the White House now or for a guy I termed, without any affection, “Bore.”

Johnny’s crass pandering to the fringes of the Republican Party have left us all without a clear view of what he may or may not believe. What we know for sure is that his campaign slogan should read “JOHNNY First.” And he got himself a scheming social butterfly with the same mentality for a running mate. Keep them-please.

JollyRoger: I agree. It is a all about “Johnny FIRST.” I hope the American people make the right choice in November. Thanks for your visit!
