Why I Left Google Blogger
Opinion
I had mentioned in a previous post that I started my blogging journey at Google Blogger. Like many, it was a great place for a blogging novice to begin. The blogs are free and fairly non-tech in getting up and running.
After a while, I started to see the real side of Google Blogger. It is a real cross-section of what people are all about. There is a “ticker” that shows random blogs that a person can click on and view. Out of curiosity I started clicking and viewing. To my surprise, I noticed that a large percent of blog showing were, simply, set-up to provide a gateway to pornography, gambling, and gaming sites. Further, I noticed that there were many insurance and realty agents using blogs to advertise their services. Finally, many of the blogs were, simply, being used as “link farm” feeds to benefit other website’s advertising campaigns.
I started to investigate, on-line, this phenomenon and found reports that computer viruses and malware were another troubling situation at Google Blogger. Many hackers were setting up Google AdSense ads with attached viruses.
In the end, my decision was easily made to take the next step quickly and move to a registered domain on a reliable hosting server. I have very strong negative feelings about pornography and gambling and I choose to keep it out of my life as much as possible. I don’t want even a broad attached association with any of this areas.
Even now, I receive many attempted linking to my posts from Google Blogger sites that are nothing more than link farms, insurance, reality and etc. etc….you get my point.
Google is a great company and is celebrating it’s 10th birthday. It has tried, during it’s growth, to be “solution for all of man’s Internet needs” but that is an impossible goal. I think that as Google matures, it will better understand the weakness in it’s business plan and make the proper corrections..

I agree completely. I started my first Google blog in early 2000, while in high school. It was a fun site for a few years, but it eventually stopped meeting my needs.
It’s still a great site for first-time bloggers, but Google isn’t consistent in removing material that violates their ToS. It’s sad really, since I use Google for EVERYTHING else.
Anyhow, I found your site through LinkReferral and wanted to let you know that I enjoy your posts. It’s uncommon to find a decent site, with legitimate content, through LinkReferral. Thanks for being one of the few!

Sha, thanks so much for your visit. I hope that it will be the start of a daily visit. I will do everything possible to live up to your standards for legitmate content. I just visited your blog and you have a really beautiful site. Living in the Philippines, I know what it is to be part of the “Island Experience.” We are part of the lucky few. Take care and Mabuhay!
